Grandmother

My first steps we did stumble through
The firemen, the moist cat food

Even the killer inner-tube

Could not dissuade a love so true

We fought about the brussel sprouts
And crocodile tears brought on time-outs

Though, in the pink-chair I did pout

You taught me of life’s ins and outs

The fairy-tales read in the shade
Of a great oak, so strong, so brave

Through those words, to me you gave

Imagination, what I crave

Yes, you were there; you took the call
When life collapsed, you saw me fall

And with patience, through it all

You helped remove a silent wall

So when life seemed to take its toll
You reached right in, and touched my soul

I am assured; it was your goal

To love me

Change me

Make me whole
