Burial at Sea

What were you looking for
When you dug me up out of the sand?
Was it shiny, and perfect, and new?
When you found me, were you not fascinated
With my potential.

Did I feel heavy, there in your pocket?
Did you ever absentmindedly fondle me nervously
During the days, as your mind wandered?
Did you ever, once, consider tossing me to the tide
Digging me a new place to rest my lust-filled body?
